On behalf of the students, faculty, and staff of Zane North School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Zane North School official web site. In order to promote a more compassionate and responsible society, Zane North’s students, parents, staff, and administration have joined together in a “TEAM” approach to educating our students. This philosophy includes educating the “whole child” - emotionally, socially, academically, and physically. Our team approach emphasizes academic achievement as well as the development of moral character and civic virtue. In so doing, Zane North School has become a fun, safe learning environment for our students, staff, and administration. As we join hands to educate your child, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for your commitment to support our efforts. I look forward with great anticipation to joining with you on our journey toward educational excellence. As we work together, Zane North will shine with the success of its “Stars”.

Family Fun at Zane North!
The bustling pace of Zane North families slowed down on Friday, January 20, as the Zane community joined together for the Second Annual Yoga Night. Under the leadership of Mrs. Kimberly Marish, both young and old stretched, groaned, and giggled as they were taught yoga basics. Simplifying the ABCs of yoga, Mrs. Marish demonstrated the benefits of flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness in a safe non-competitive environment. Promoting listening skills and communication, children selected poses from a hat and demonstrated them to the capacity crowd. The family fun night highlighted the core values of cooperation and compassion—instead of opposition, encouraging partnerships and teamwork. At the end of the demonstration the crowd mixed and mingled while sharing light refreshments provided by the PTA.

A Sweet Treat !
Ice cream in winter? Although the temperature outside was chilly, students in Mrs. Kresge’s 3rd and 4th grade classes were willing to freeze a little for this creamy classic. They started off by reading the book From Milk to Ice Cream by Michael Christopher. Next, they incorporated math skills, such as fractions and measuring, to follow the simple zipper bag recipe. The they compared the process that the factory ice cream must go through with the classroom process. Finally, after vigorous shaking, everyone enjoyed their sweet treat. Here is the recipe so you can try it at home:
In a quart size zipper freezer bag pour:
2 TBSP sugar
1 CUP half & half
1/2 to 1 TSP pure vanilla extract
SEAL BAG
In a gallon size zipper freezer bag pour:
1/2 cup sea salt or rock salt crystals
Fill bag halfway with ice
*Place small bag into larger bag of ice
*SEAL
*Put on gloves to protect your hands
*SHAKE very well (at least 5 minutes) until
ice cream mixture is hardened
*Remove small bag, snip off a bottom corner and squeeze into a bowl
ENJOY!!
Feel free to add in crushed oreos, crunch bars or fruit!
